We know that shoppers hold freshness above all else when shopping for produce. Who wouldn’t? We all know that less time between harvest and lunch means better taste and nutrition. Very little we do at Red Tomato is simple. By focusing on shorting the time our products take to move from the field to the store, we landed on a message that is. How refreshing!
So, how could we guarantee freshness to Red Tomato shoppers? In the winter of 2011/12, we started talking seriously about the idea of a season-long local program built on a 24-hour-farm-to-store promise – complete with farm identified product and in-store marketing support. Kings Food Markets, in Northern New Jersey, took the idea and ran with it, launching in their 24-store chain in June of 2012. In 2013, we added a similar Freshness program in three CT-based Balducci’s stores. Want to see a Freshness program where you shop? Drop us a line!
