Scientists and ResearchersWhat’s the best, least-toxic strategy for managing codling moth in a New England orchard? What is the ideal planting width for tomato rows to minimize disease and maximize yield? What is the best time for setting out pheromone traps in a rainy year? Practical research on crops, horticulture, pest and disease management, weed science, marketing and a host of other important areas are key to successful farming. Red Tomato depends on the research and knowledge of an exemplary network of scientists and experts. Some of them work for public land grant universities, others with private academic institutions or non-profit organizations, some are dedicated government agency employees, and some are farmers (whom we call our Professors.) There are programs available to fund research on reduced pesticide use, sustainable agriculture, and specialty crops, (otherwise known as fruits and vegetables!) But overall, public support and funding for this type of research has been drastically reduced over the past several decades, in spite of the pressing need for new research and new knowledge. We are especially appreciative of the opportunity to work with these experts:
